Caribbean Business

Once reliant on sugar and other agricultural commodities, Caribbean Business today sees a large part of its growth directly or indirectly tied to tourism. The rise of tourism has sparked the indirect expansion in many other domestic industries such as construction and service related enterprises. Offshore banking and free trade are also important components of Caribbean commerce. Agriculture, while a diminishing percentage of the Caribbean's overall GDP, still plays an important role in employment and domestic food supply. By international standards, nations of the Caribbean are not rich in minerals and natural resources. Only a few nations - Trinidad and Tobago, Cuba and Jamaica for example - possess substantial oil and/or mineral reserves.
