South Africa business opportunities are quite diverse. Africa’s largest economy boasts an abundant supply of natural resources, and well-developed legal, communications, and energy sectors. It has a vibrant financial sector with numerous internationally recognized private banks, and the largest stock exchange in Africa (JSE). South Africa has a comparative advantage in the production of agriculture, mining and manufacturing products relating to these sectors, a thriving tourism sector, and modern infrastructure supporting a relatively efficient distribution of goods to major urban centers throughout the region. On the flip side, there are several daunting economic challenges which pose risks to South Africa business ventures. These include high unemployment, poverty and crime rates, a lack of economic empowerment among the disadvantaged groups, restrictive labour regulations, plus high levels of state ownership that create barriers to entry in numerous sectors.
